中國的成語翻譯，你知多少？
1、 鞭長莫及
其實在英語里要表達(dá)鞭長莫及很簡單，就是beyond什么什么之類的，比如beyond one's reach或beyond one's graspd等，例如：
從利比亞到不列顛的距離更遠(yuǎn)但不是鞭長莫及。
It's farther from Libya to Britain but not beyond reach.
2、 閉關(guān)自守
閉關(guān)自守一般都指某個國家，所以英語翻譯也跟國家有關(guān)：close the country to international intercourse。
閉關(guān)自守的經(jīng)濟(jì)是Closed economy，而一個閉關(guān)自守的國家a hermit nation，例句：
With few other investment options in a closed economy, they put a big chunk of savings into real estate.
在一個閉關(guān)自守的經(jīng)濟(jì)中，由于幾乎沒有其它投資選擇，中國人把大量儲蓄投入了房地產(chǎn)。
3、 比上不足，比下有余。
有兩種比較好的表達(dá)方法：
worse off than some, better off than many
to fall short of the best, but be better than the worst
這樣的話，上面那句話：在些地方我不如人，但有些地方人不如我，比上不足，比下有余。
我們就可以直接用這兩種表達(dá)方法來表達(dá)，即準(zhǔn)確又簡練。
4、 本末倒置
我們用put the cart before the horse來表示，你想想，馬車，是不是馬應(yīng)該在前面，如果把馬放在馬車的后面，豈不是本末倒置了？例如：
如果你把由下至上的規(guī)劃擺在由上至下的前面，那你就是本末倒置了。
If you put bottom-up planning ahead of top-down planning, you’re putting the cart before the horse.
5、背道而馳
背道而馳可以用run counter to來表示，例如：
我感覺到其中摻雜著宿命情緒和樂觀情緒，但與我的想法背道而馳。
I sensed an odd mix of fatalism and optimism, which both run counter to my own views.
6、悲歡離合
悲歡離合我們可以用vicissitudes of life來表示，例如：
So there are many stories of vicissitudes of life in the world every day.
所以這個世界天天上演著悲歡離合的故事。
7、 笨鳥先飛
我們可以用A slow sparrow should make an early start或make an early start來表示，例如：
笨鳥先飛。你知道的，我在學(xué)語言方面比較笨。

8、 卑躬屈膝

11、包羅萬象
可以用all-embracing和all-inclusive來表示，例如：
你不可能提出一個包羅萬象的建議。
You can not possibly make an all-embracing proposal.
12、半途而廢
我們可以用give up halfway或leave sth. Unfinished來表示，例如：
這項試驗一定要搞到底， 不能半途而廢。
We must carry the experiment through to the end, not give up halfway.
13、百折不撓
我們可以用be indomitable來表示，例如：
We passed the kind of military servicemen should also be indomitable fighting spirit and indomitable fighting spirit.
我們經(jīng)過軍訓(xùn)也應(yīng)有軍人那種百折不撓的精神與堅韌不拔的斗志。
14、百聞不如一見用
我們可以用Seeing is believing來表示，例如：
While to an extent "seeing is believing", quite often it is what you don’t see that makes the difference.
盡管在某種程度上"百聞不如一見"，但在相當(dāng)多的時候，不為你所見的事情才起著決定性的作用。
15、百里挑一
百里挑一直接的意思就是從一百人里面挑一個，英語里面類似，用one in hundred來表示，當(dāng)然還有其他一些比較好的說法，請參考下面的例句：
她認(rèn)為她的丈夫是百里挑一的好人。
She thinks her husband is a man in a million.
